My top selling carp rigs for September 2024

Shot on the hook rigs

September has seen a massive increase in the amount of orders coming through but there has been 1 carp rig which is out selling everything else. Maybe its because of the Korda Underwater video at Norton Disney, maybe its the amount of coverage this rig gets on social media, what ever the cause of the increased popularity of the Shot on the hook rig (SOTH) you cant deny the mechanics of this rig. The tungsten bead on the hook point means that the point of the hook has to always face downwards ready to prick the bottom lip of the carp. Shot on the hook rigs are nothing new they have been around since the late 80s and they just got forgotten in the plethora of other rigs like the Ronnie Rig, D rig, Multi rigs etc. The fact is still the same this rig caught so many big carp in the 80s and early 90s it will continue to do so for many years to come. The most popular variation is the Spinner rig, Korda showcased this with a heavy inline lead, short 3-4 inch stiff boom and a critically balanced bait like half a bottom bait and half a pop up.

Custom made Fluorocarbon Carp Rigs

My second best selling carp rig is another that features most months, the Fluorocarbon D rig - A firm favourite for the autumn when the water starts to clear. The Fluorocarbon turns nearly invisible in the water due to the unique light refraction (this is where light bounces off of things in the water) The stiffer nature of Fluorocarbon means you can fish this at any range effectively and be assured your rig is presenting right and not tangled. Ideally used with a wafter or bottom bait this rig will blend in seamlessly to the bottom and when you get a take its practically impossible for the carp to eject the bait and hook, the D on the shank of the hook will enable the bait to slide back towards the eye of the hook but leave the hook point in the mouth. The instant reaction means as soon as the carp feels the hook its too late to eject anything and your alarms should start singing!

The Final Carp rig in the top 3 is the ever popular Solid PVA Bag Rig, however for the first time the Lock Hook version has out sold every other version I sell. The Lock Hook version features the OMC Lock hooks, OMC Dazzler Aligner and long distance hook beads, The aligners and hook beads come in 4 options - Worm, Sweetcorn, Bloodworm and Maggot so you can choose a colour closest to your hook bait and free offerings. The rig is tied in a short length normally 2-4 inches long and with a supple braid such as Korda Dark Matter, Korda Super Natural or Fox Reflex sinking braid. Solid bag fishing is popular all year because of how adaptable it is. You simply fill a Solid pva bag with your loose feed be it micro pellet, maggots, crushed boilies or a dedicated bag mix add your weight and hook to the bag and seal it up. This method means you are gaurenteed to have your hook bait right in the middle of your highly attractive loose feed and you can cast this practically anywhere because the bag will prevent your rig from sinking in to silt, it will sit on top of any debris like leaves, weed etc (chod). This method popularity as the water cools and Carp dont move so much and stop feeding so much as the summer months, you litreally are only baiting for a bite rather than a big area.
