For the optimal results, a Lead clip works well on flat bottoms, if there is silt then a helicopter rig will work best

The Fluorocarbon turns invisible in the water due to the light refraction, it also has some degree of stiffness which helps to prevent tangles on the cast. 
The camo fleck alternative is slightly more supple so will allow your bait to react naturally in the water.

The German rig is so effective because of the mechanics of allowing the bait to slide back up the shank of the hook towards the eye - making the rig hook point heavy, the optimum position to nail the carp in the bottom lip. This rig is a favourite among some of the biggest anglers in the industry such as Danny Fairbrass for example.
